Advertising for a payroll position but only willing to communicate through WhatsApp. Sent me a check for $1000 electronically through my email to mobile deposit. I was to pay a “vendor” through cash app for an Apple laptop to come installed with the companies software. Cash app cancelled the payment as a protection against spam. My bank called this morning to let me know the check was returned as a frozen or blocked account. Both the “Vice President” and “hiring manager” of the company got very rude and threatening when I would not comply with their scam anymore.

This is a check scam. This company will promise you a job and then will send you an emailed check for computer software that is needed for a computer they provide for you to do the job. they tell you to deposit the check into your bank and to keep a portion and send the rest of the money to a third party vendor. Once that check is deposited, you are supposed to send the money then and a few days later your bank informs you that the company did not have the funds to pay that check. SCAM!
