Called on phone, saying they were representing medicare and calling to offer her a free back or knee brace. Said she was recommended by her doctor for a back brace. They had last 4 digits of SSN, birthdate, etc., and asked her to confirm the information was correct. She said she may be interested in a back brace. They kept repeating they were from Medicare. They said someone would call her about a brace. Someone called a couple of days later but she didn't answer call. On Friday, she received a box full of different braces for all parts of body, very heavy. When it was delivered, she was required to sign for the package. She didn't know what the package was but signed for it because they frequently get packages. There was a letter in the box that says returns must be made within 3 days for credit and must call for return #. The letter says their office is open Monday-Thursday. Letter says she will have to pay for prodcts if not covered by Medicare, and says that by signing for the package she authorizes CME to submit the charge to Medicare and authorizes her insurance company or attorney to pay using her electronic signature from signing for the package, and she agrees to be responsible for paying for the products, any lawsuits, etc. She didn't even know what was in the box (and they frequently get deliveries at their home). Concerned because they had her SSN last 4 digits, birthday, address, etc. Also concerned they will submit a fraudulent claim to Medicare. And, then they will come back trying to make her pay.
