I applied to a position via LinkedIn about a remote/work from home position. I was contacted with an offer via text message from a hiring manager named John Power that directed me to email them confirmation of my acceptance and in the email there was information about the position, and that I would receive funds to acquire software and equipment for the orientation and training. I responded to that email giving them my address and phone number. I was told that they could not sent the check via mail and would send the check to my email and that it would need to be deposited that way. The check was sent, I also told them that I had questions about what the software and that I needed clearer instruction for what materials to purchase and it was suggested that the funds be sent to a vendor that she would acquire the materials and download the software and send them to me in preparation of my orientation. The check processed a day later and the funds appeared in my account. The hiring manager texted me and I told them that it had processed and asked who the funds should be sent to. They provided me with their name and email I attempted to send $2,000. The transfer was pending and the hiring manager had me call the bank and have it processed that way. I authorized the transfer and it was confirmed on my end. The hiring manager instructed me to send an additional $1,500 and when I attempted to do so it was paused. I called the bank and after talking with them I again authorized the charge and when I received the message that it had failed because the user could no longer receive funds, I realized that this was most likely a scam and called the police and called my bank to report it.
