I was looking for a Cavalier King Charles puppy and filled out a contact form on their website. The price was reasonable for a back yard breeder. They asked me to pay using Zelle and said they were having issues with their PayPal account. I was grieving the loss of my dog and went with my heart instead of my brain. All communication was by text and they never answered the phone when I called. After payment they wanted more for shots which their ad said was covered. They finally sent me info on shipping only to hear from the shipping company that $1500 was required for insurance which was refundable upon receipt of the puppy. The breeder said they had invested all their money recently in a business and couldn’t cover the cost but begged me to pay as the puppy was already with the shipping agency and was going to feel abandoned. The next request from the shipping company was for $1900 to cover the cost of a proper crate. Again the breeder claimed to have not known this ahead of time.
