We recently lost our 13.5 year old dog. We found what we thought was a wonderful resource on Facebook called Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Puppies for Adoption and Rehoming in ????????. It appeared to be a legitimate site. They had several dogs featured to be adopted and many positive testimonies from people claiming to have received dogs from them. We proceeded to choose a pup and were told it was available. We were told it was being rehomed because its owner was working a new job with long hours and felt bad about it spending its time in a crate all day. We agreed to adopt it and paid an $800 adoption and shipping fee. The day the puppy was to arrive we were told there was a problem with transport due to it being a weekend and it would arrive the following day. When it did not arrive that day I messaged them and they said they had told me it was the following day. I sent them the email and they said it was their mistake but it would arrive the following day. Upon awaking on the third promised day of her arrival I received a message saying they could not transport her because she needed an electronic crate that I could purchase for $300-$800 and it would be two more days before we would get her. At this point we admitted that we were scammed. When I let them know that we would not be sending any more money and surely if they were a legitimate organization, they would know the type of crate needed for transport. I requested my money back and did not hear from them for several hours. My husband sent an email telling them we would be reporting them to this agency and The Federal Trade Commission and the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center. I then received a message saying they would refund our money. I asked they do it immediately and have heard nothing from them since. It appears they have ceased contact with us. We feel gut punched, preyed upon and foolish. Such a hard lesson for us trusting folks in our 70’s!
