I was contacted by a “representative” for Dasani water to advertise for their business. They sent me a USPS envelope and a check from TD Bank for $1,980. The man “Michael Carlile” said to deposit the check into my account and transfer $1,400 to a car wrap technical expert and keep the leftover $580 for myself. Now, I went and deposited the check into mine and my husbands account. The bank said there would be a hold on the check for several days. Sunday August 27, 2022 we received an email stating the funds wouldn’t be paid by TD Bank. I messaged Mr. Carlile and made him aware of what the bank sent us. He said not to worry the check would clear on the date the bank said. I called both banks Monday today August 29, 2022. They both said I needed to contact the maker of the check. I did just that and Mr. Carlile stated that he could “wire” money to our bank account. I then looked up information of the Dasani car wrap scam as it was called on Google. So many stories popped up. I confronted Mr. Carlile and he became very ignorant towards me in his messages. This is when I knew I needed to call my bank and have them flag the check as fraudulent. Which I did and the check will bounce back to the maker and my husband and I only have to pay a $10 returned check fee. I would rather that than have to pay back $1,980. Please be aware do not fall for this scam.
