I'm a retiree and use the Medicare healthcare system. I received a call today asking if I had received my new Medicare card which has some additional benefits. I told the called I didn't think Medicare cards expired and was told the new cards are plastic just replacing the paper version. The caller went on to tell me a new benefit was complimentary braces for knees, backs, etc. and ask which one I could use and they would send it right out totally free. Of course, since I supposedly hadn't received my new card they ask for my current card number and would check to see if I could get the benefit with the old card. As the call went on I began to think this was a scam and they were about to use my card to rip Medicare off with false charges and hung up. Unfortunately they already had my number, so I called the Medicare scam line to report the incident and they confirmed it was a scam. The callers I spoke with were young girls with foreign accents, even though they spoke English very well.
