I was offered a remote copywriter job for the company TrueSense. I went through the interview process through Wire. I then continued the process over the phone. They offered me the position and sent over the contract and direct deposit information. After filling those out, they wanted us to proceed with purchasing the equipment. They said that they were having trouble with the direct deposit, so they sent me a check. I did a direct deposit. While the check was being processed, they asked me to go forward with purchasing the equipment through their vendors. That was when I realized it was a scam and there was no job to be had.

Now I know it was a Classic job scam. I applied online, was contacted for an ‘interview' and was then offered the job and sent a number of documents to sign and send back.  (One of the documents was for direct deposit). Red flags went up when I realized the documents were poorly written and had grammatical and spelling errors galore. Furthermore, an in-person call to the ‘HR manager’ was barely understandable due to the person's heavy Asian accent.

At that point I realized there were other red flags throughout the interview, as well.
