Type of a scam Employment
Scammer sent email (9/4/20) pretending to post a job opening. Upon my replying for more information (same day), scammer told me that I lacked a mandatory certification and that prospective employer (scammer is posing as an employment agency) would consider enrollment in a certification course for purpose of proceeding to interview. Scammer sent a list of acceptable vendors for training/certification, recommending the first, which was also the cheapest (same day). After I enrolled in the certification ($450 with VMEdu) I received a notice that the prospective employer had short-listed my résumé and an interview was scheduled (9/5/20). The interviewer was identified as a person that works for the prospective employee. I looked up that person's profile on LinkedIn and later conducted the interview (9/11/20). The interview was very odd, most of the questions not being those I would expect for a job at the level advertised. After about 10 days I received a notification from the scammer that the client had decided not to move forward with my candidacy (9/25/20). I sent a note to the person who supposedly interviewed me to thank him for the interview (same day) and just today (10/5/20) received a response from him stating that this was a scam.
