I received a call from the number 1-323-391-7982. The caller had an accent and said he was calling from Capital Place One. He told me that he was informing me that there was two purchases on my card, one for over $1,000, the 2nd one was under $400. He did gave me the exact figures. He asked me if I had made those purchase. I told him I did not and since the card was deactivated I didn't understand how anyone could have used it. He then proceeded to ask me to confirm my name, address, and last four digits of my social security number, which I confirmed.

He then asked me to confirm the security code, which I did, then the card number, and I said, "Don't you have that?"

Yes, he did. He just wanted to confirm the number and I did not confirm. He then asked me for the expiration date. I became very suspicious by then and asked him where was he calling from. He said he was calling from the Capital One office. I told him that he had a lot of knowledge about me and I was going to call Capital One office, and I did. I spoke to Jose, who was very gracious and took the information about the attempted scam, which it was. Jose recommended that I call the BBB. It is Friday night and I opted to file a report online. I will be issued a new card by company.

I received a call that showed on my tv in the middle of October 2019 that said "Capital." I answered and they were trying to convince me to get a loan with them to pay off all credit card debt with 0 interest. I accepted. They said they would charge my account. They asked for every account, asked me for my birthdate and where I was born. They asked me for my social security. I wouldn't have give that information if I wouldn't have thought it was Capital, cause they already have it. They had accents that sounded Hispanic.

I received a voice mail yesterday from a person stating they were with the under writing department with Capital One. They said based on my recent credit card payments they could lower my interest rate to 1.9% The left me the number 1-800-725-8715 to call back, however when they called me it popped up as a local 208-697-5849 number.

I called the 800 number back today. When a "Representative" got on the phone she did not introduce herself at all, but instead I could hear her talking with someone else. I interrupted and said "hello". She then said she was with the under writing department with Capital one. She said my information was not pulling up and I explained it was because I was calling from my work number, not the phone number my card is set up with. I gave her my cell phone number and she then pulled up some guy named Steve who was supposedly listed under that account. I said that wasn't correct as I am not a man. She seemed frazzled and said "ok I will just have to update all of your information. So we can offer you a 1.9% interest rate you just wont be able to use your card until you pay it off, does this sound like something you would like" I told her that I would have to pass because it does not sound like she has everything organized or even know what she is doing and I was not comfortable with it. She then said (frazzled even more) "yup you're right we do not have it all lined up, ok thank you good bye" and hung up.

I called Capital One member services and told them what happened. They were able to pull up my account and see that no one from any of their departments have reached out to me yesterday or today. He confirmed that I received a scam/phishing phone call. He was going to update my account showing I had called in to explain this situation. He also had me email their abuse department so they can start investigating this as well.

Received a letter stating a check was issued in 2015 to me at the address I currently live. It started it was never cashed and to reclaim it withing 30 days. I called the number on the letter only to get a fast busy signal. The reason I became suspicious is because I have only lived at this address since November 2017. I contacted Capital One and they confirmed this was indeed a scam letter.

Back on November 2, 2017, my caller ID showed as the local school with the school's number. I answered thinking it was the school about my granddaughter that attends the school. Once I answered, a female went on to say it was Capitol One and thanked me for paying off my account and for being a good customer, etc, and before they closed my account, would I liked to hear their special offer? (then there was a slight pause for me to answer). But, since I don't even own ANY credit cards (but my daughter does have a Capital One), instead of saying yes or no, I asked who she was calling for? She started talking again and acted like she didn't hear me and talked over me while I was asking who she's calling for..she repeated again if I would like to hear the special offer? When I didn't say anything at all after the second time she asked, and after a few seconds of pause, the recording started to repeat all over again from the very beginning. That's when I realized it was a recording and was probably that "Yes" scam I heard about, and hung up. All this took place in a matter of about a minute and half or less. It sounded so real and just like it was a live young female. There was no pre- indication whatsoever that it was a recording. I could have VERY EASILY fallen for this if I owned a Capital One (or any) credit card...although, in my afterthoughts, I should have realized it was a scam sooner and paid more attention to the fact that the school's number was spoofed and didn't match the Capital One caller, or that credit card companies won't call you before they close your account.
