CA Certificate Service Reports & Reviews (26)

08/26/2024. Got a document from CA Certificate Service with an address of 182 Howard Street Box 333 San Francisco, CA 94015 pretending to be a government office requesting payment of $87.25 for a 2024 certificate of status request form. Apparently this company is still at it. Notice Date is 08/09/2024 and requesting payment by 08/19/2024- clear pressure tactics. Somewhere in the letter (at the place where one is supposed to tear and return the payment slip) there is a small fine print that says "This is not a government agency". Do not fall for this scam! The form is not even legally required by the government agency when you open a business. This company and the people behind it needs to be penalized and imprisoned!

I fell for it. I was opening email rapidly after setting up a new LLC and thought it was from the filing company to take care of one or two last items. I do feel like an [censored]. I didn't receive anything, so I requested a refund from my credit card processor.

And, I did find out that they are in trouble in a number of states and have been sued by the state of Washington and ordered to pay millions. Just google "WA Certificate Services" lawsuit and everything comes up. They also do labor posters. The owners are based in Florida and can be found in that lawsuit information.

If you are a lawyer, they are ripe for a class action in several states.

My company got an invoice for $87.25 for a Certificate of Status for the state of California. I was to send a check or money order to them by the following week.

Filed for my LLC in Missouri and was sent this request form for certificate of good standing. There is a real certificate that is called this but there are a few more steps that are included before I would be eligible for this Certificate of good standing. Decided to look up the fake letter and here I am.

This agency makes it sound like we need to pay an extra bill for a certification that isn’t actually required. If you look at the reviews on the ScamPulse.com website, you’ll see many people have paid and been scammed. This is absurd. This needs to stop because they’re making money off of certificates that aren’t even necessary but trying to mislead consumers to think they need this.

FRAUD. fraud. And I just read from someone else’s review that the CA certificate service responded “we don’t do business in California.”

L. O. L.

I called them to ask why the document contains “This is not a government agency.” I’m a smaller font. So I call them and they said “this is a solicitation mail.” Really?

The document clearly states “You have one step left in order you attain your elective California Certificate of Status.”

Don’t use the word “have” and try to protect yourself with “elective.”

This is taking advantage of people who don’t know better. This is absurd. This needs to be shut down or regulated.

You know how many people would fall for this and pay? They’re charging $87.25.

Posing as Secretary of State issuing Certificate of Status request form. The letter is meant to look as official as possible. It says some generic vague things referencing the need for Certificate Status to get business loans etc... It says you must respond within a date that is pretty much 24hrs after you receive the letter. Then tells you to mail a check by that immediate date. As well in very small print its says "This is not a government agency". If you go to the actual government website, it immediately informs you this is a scam/ fraud. It appears they just keep changing the address and redoing the scam.

After starting a new LLC in Colorado, I got mail telling me my business needed to fill out their form and pay them $70 to get a Colorado Certificate of Good Standing. The letter made it seem like they are part of the Colorado state government, but in reality they are a scam company that files the paperwork with the state government for an extra $20 fee.

My attorney had already gotten me the certificate via the real Colorado state website (for $50), so when I asked her about the letter, she told me it was a scam. They should have written in the letter that this is a request for service or advertising, but they did not.

My employer company owns several different business entities, and when LLC notices have been listed with the state of California, "CA Certificate Service" sends a letter asking for money for an "elective California Certificate of Status" that my company did not request. Emails to this company through the ScamPulse.com asking them to stop mailings have gone unanswered; phone calls do not connect. The street address is a UPS mailbox, not a business storefront. "This is not a government agency" is printed in the smallest font on the page, right near a folding crease.

I filed to obtain my LLC a few weeks ago. At the initial file I had to pay a fee to register my business in my state. After doing so I received this letter that looked EXTREMELY legit from a company called CA CERTIFICATE SERVICE declaring that my business wasn't finalized until I sent in a $77.25 check to legitimize my company. I found this very odd considering I had already paid the fees necessary at the initial registration. After researching the company on ScamPulse.com I saw that a lot of people have fell into this SCAM. I am so glad I researched before sending the check out. I literally was convinced and even wrote out the check. This is NOT okay and this must be stopped.

this letter congratulates a business for registering with the state of California and then they states that we have one more step to complete. it want the new business owner to mail a check for $77.25 and they will issue a elective California certificate status. unfortunate this form can only be given by the secretary of state and only cost $5. Then address these scammers are using is not an address it is a UPS store.

This company is pretending to be an official government office and requiring new business owners to make a payment to them, to obtain documents that should be obtained directly from a government office. They have crafted the postal mail in a way that is purposely targeted towards non-native English speakers who would not give a second glance or question the legitimacy of the document. In no way shape or form do they ever mention the construct of their real business in the letter. They are a scammers that poses as a government office. As a new business owner it is imperative to watch out for scams such as this one and do your research before sending out any money.

This business is requesting me to pay for a California Certificate of Status that certifies that I am an official business. I registered my business with the California Secretary of State and paid all dues owed and have already received an official copy that certifies my business. I am now being contacted by an unknown entity who requesting me to pay $77.25, via check or money order. I believe this business is a scam. And acting on behalf of the CA Secretary of State.

After recently registering a LLC in California, I received a piece of mail addressed to the LLC. The mail stated that "You have one step left in order to attain your elective California Certificate of Status." It goes on to say that "The Certificate of Status bears the official seal of the California Secretary of State." It asks for $77.25, made payable to CA CERTIFICATE SERVICE.

I recently created an LLC and registered with the state of California. I received in the mail a certificate of status request form and requesting $77.25 which is exactly the amount of money I paid to the state of California

This business is predatory and targeting newly formed LLCs. They present themselves as a portion of the process in finalizing your LLC Formation. Without advertising their service they request "Please Respond By" and state "You have one step left in order to attain your elective California Certificate of Status". So horrible what they are doing scamming new businesses. I wrote a check out to them for $77.25, but just couldn't believe there wasn't a California seal anywhere on the payment request. Thank goodness I found this reported scam online. I hope this is shut down soon, and that anyone who was scammed by them is refunded.

Received a request to send $77.25 to CA CERTIFICATE SERVICE as part of setting up my LLC. Said it was needed to attain my elective California Certificate of Status, which may be needed for future business/tax purposes. Didn't remember seeing this as one of the charges I would need to pay as part of setting up my LLC, so dug into it a bit more and saw that it's a scam.

CA Certificates tries to pass themselves off as providing a necessary service to obtain a California Certificate of Service for a newly formed LLC. Their correspondence is by regular mail and is disguised to represent themselves as a Govt. entity although there is small print that indicates they are not.

They are preying on the uninformed and vulnerable. Fortunately I am neither so was able to identify the scam immediately.

Hopefully others will do the same.

I just started a business and they charged me for the Certificate of Status. The mail SEEMED to be from the State of California. However, now that I have the “certificate,” it is nothing more than a white piece of paper. And it was mailed from FLORIDA zip code 33708.

This came to us in the mail. My & my husband's business is Itty & Boo's Pipe Emporium and we sell tobacco pipes. We got this letter in the mail about paying $63.75 to be accredited. They used the name Missouri Certificate Services and said they were at 2000 E Broadway Suite 242 Columbia, MO and can be reached at [email protected] . I called the ScamPulse.com to see if this was a legitimate organization. It is not.
