Type of a scam Phishing
I was contacted by an individual claiming to be Edward William, who stated that my trademark classification was incomplete and that I had not properly filed Section 8 and Section 15 for domestic use. He also mentioned that my IC 35 and 43 classifications were not secured, and that IC 101 and 102 were necessary. He pressured me into making an urgent payment to "correct" the issue by the end of the day out of urgency.
I ended up paying $2,025 under the belief that this was required to secure my trademark. Additionally, he mentioned a Donna G. Anderson from Axiom Law, but I am unsure of her involvement.
I have since realized that this may have been a scam. This is my first time handling a trademark registration, and I did not suspect anything fraudulent at the time. However, after reviewing the situation, I believe I was deceived into making unnecessary payments.
I have already contacted my financial institution (Mountain America Credit Union) to report the fraudulent charge. Additionally, I am in the process of filing a complaint with the FTC, and FCC. I filed a complaint with the Utah Department of Commerce, and now here as well. Scams like this make it difficult for people to start businesses.
Please advise me on the next steps I should take to report this incident formally and whether there are any measures I can take to recover my funds. Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time and help.
