The harassment started with a phone call to my new place of employment on a Friday afternoon. The lady I initially spoke with informed me this call was an effort to collect a debt, etc. and then proceeded to speak to me in an extremely abrasive tone, threatening me with legal action. She then transferred me to a "Ronald Swafford", my account representative. He told me I owed an outstanding balance of approx. $2,300 and referenced an account of mine that has long been closed and settled. He would not provide specific details related to the account in question. He asked if I was able to take care of the balance and I responded, "Absolutely not. I will not pay some arbitrary amount for an account you cannot give me any details about." He put me on hold stating he was going to speak with his supervisor. He came back a minute later with specific information related to the (already settled) account in question. It's frightening that he even had access to this information! I asked him what would happen if I did not resolve this matter. He said that he would process the paperwork, that I would be served papers either at my home or employer by a uniformed officer, that I would be taken to court and be held responsible for all associated court fees, and that my wages would be garnished. RED FLAGS!!! I told him I needed to do some research, i.e. review my credit reports (to disprove his claims) and verify my rights as a consumer. He told me I had 24 business hours to respond to resolve the matter. I clearly stated he was not permitted to contact me at work again and that I would follow up with him the following business day. In the meantime, they've called both my father-in-law and mother, leaving threatening messages related to my "account". This is a federal offence.

I confirmed that this was a scam upon reviewing my credit reports. I researched my rights identifying several violations including calls to relatives and calls at my employer after expressly stating that this was not permitted. They are legally required to abide by that request, which they did not. The following Tuesday, I received another call at work from "Mr. Swafford". I immediately ended the call and called him back a short time later. I began calling him out on all of his BS, upon which he became belligerent stating that he was going to file the paperwork and then proceeded to hang up on me. I called back and spoke to a woman (I'm pretty sure the same woman who initially made contact with me). I explained to her how rude Mr. Swafford had been towards me, the numerous violations of my rights, and the evidence I had collected to disprove this collection attempt. She gave me some bogus email address to send my findings to. In the meantime, they sent an Employment Verification Form to my employer's HR email, which I was fortunately able to intercept. Otherwise they would have been provided personal information related to my income.

I went on their bogus website and submitted a lengthy comment at the bottom of their page. I advised them that should they continue harassing me regarding this non-issue, that any further correspondence will go through my attorney and legal action will be taken against them to the fullest extent of the law.
