Unfortunately, he did. The app they had him download is called Supremo. It gave them control of the computer.
After this (before my I figured out what was going on), the "tech" told him that the repairs would cost 350$ but that payment could only be made on ITunes gift cards. I didn't even know what those were, but politely refused his service (he said he felt like something wasn't quite right). After refusing, their polite manner changed to threats. They said they were going to crash my system if I didn't provide payment. I hung up and checked my computer. It wasn't threats; they completely crashed Windows. There were multiple pop ups with the phone number that showed up on caller ID and the background was completely black. I couldn't access anything.
