The scammer said ADT security systems were in need of an upgrade to go from 3G to 5G and ADT was allowing other firms to do the upgrade. I made an appointment and told them I would check with ADT before agreeing firmly to the appointment. I called ADT and they said callers were trying to replace ADT security systems with Brinks Home Security systems. They said Brinks is trying to build up their customer base. ADT did not authorize it. I called the number that the caller had used and there was just a recording that said to leave a message. There was no identifying information. I left a message to cancel the call and to not come on my premises. The caller used our address when he called. The appointment time was set for this afternoon, coming up in about an hour.

A man claiming to work with Brinks Home Secuity came to my door and said that Brinks had recently purchased ADT. I use ADT for my home security, he knew I had an ADT account even though I did not have a sign in my front yard or anywhere on my property. He looked at the system I had and said it was out of date. He then sat down with me and helped me sign up for a new account with Brinks Home Security and installed a new system. He also wrote a letter to ADT stating that I would like to be let out of my account and I signed it and he told me he would send it to ADT by certified mail.  I gave him a blank check for whatever the costs would be. Later, I recieved a bill from ADT. I called them and explained what happened. They did not mention being bought out by Brinks and said that they never recieved the my letter. I called the contact number the Brinks salesman gave me and told them I do not want an account with Brinks and to let me out of the contract. They said I had to fill out some paper work and send them $1,600 to be let out of the contract.
