On Saturday April 21, 2018 I downloaded a flash drive program and on Sunday a black box popped up with information telling me I had a virus, I should call asap. I called and they answered Apple support in a broken english, the man I talked named *** took my information and said it would cost $175.99 plus tax and he wanted to sell me Apple care. He then transferred me to a man named *** who also spoke in broken english. ***t confirmed how much it was going to cost me which was $179.99 for the support and $199.99 for the Apple care program. I thought about it for a minute and said no I don't want the Apple Care so I got transferred back to Phillip who tired to strong arm me into buying the Apple Care and I told him NO!!. Then he transferred back to *** who got into my computer and told me he was removing the virus. And he added a program called SOPHOS SECURITY. And after about 45 minutes he said al was done and I was protected and how did I want to pay for it I said by check. Then like a dummy I allowed him into my bank account to set up the payment. I was upset about this all night and told my partner on Monday I was going to call Apple. I called Applecare and told them what happened and I was told Apple does not ask for payment like that and I had been scammed. I immediately canceled the payment through our bank. And an awesome Apple Tech worked for 2 1/2 hours to remove everything. I called my bank and ask if they could put a block on this company and they said no as I should go to my bank and cancel the account and open a new account, I did this on Monday afternoon which cost me $30.00 to cancel the acct. but better than !99.99. So all is good problem is I had to go into my online bank account and cancel everyone I have as vendors to pay each month. That has been an all day job. Then on Monday afternoon Philip called and left a message and saying they had worked on my computer and he thinks it is working just fine. Then I got an email from them telling me If I had any problems to be sure and call them and do not contact anyone else in reference to this issue as they would take care of it for me. Well on Tuesday morning I logged into my computer and there was a message saying that SOPHOS SECURITY had found another virus and I was to call *** and let him fix it. I called Apple care and another wonderful Apple Tech worked 1 1/2 hours getting rid of the SOPHOS SECURITY program. I hope I am okay but who knows with these kind of people. Lesson learned after 30 yrs using computers and the internet I have only been scammed twice. Not bad for 30 yrs. I hope anyone who reads this do not leet Bridgeway Soft inc. into your computer.
