They attempted to offer me a job, upon communication with them it seemed legit. The website was verified on my end and for the first few days everything seemed normal. I was given an interview, the job offer was accepted, and the job duties were explained. After a few days is when the company representative Bridget Jackson told me they would be sending me a check for about $7,000 to purchase materials and for a sign on bonus. The check came overnight, it was then deposited in my bank account and I waited 24 hours for the check to clear. After the 24 hour wait my banking institution placed it on hold to finish clearing. During this hold process I was still naive to the fact that it could be a scam as the check looked legit and at that time the check was validated through the Huntington Beach Bank check validity system. Bridget Jackson then requested that I make a partial payment of my own money to purchase the start up materials for this new job that I had just obtained. At first she asked for $1,000 but due to security measures placed on my accounts the transactions kept getting declined. Bridget then asked for a lesser amount of $500 which was unfortunately sent over, I was under the assumption that I would be receiving my materials once I paid for them. Once the money went through is when things started coming through with my personal bank account. We discovered it was a fake check that was written out to me using another company’s account that had no involvement in physically processing this check. I personally spoke with this company’s financial department and that’s when they advised me that Brent Johnson Design company is doing this scam to lots of people on the west and east coast. I am currently going through a check return for the $7,000 they originally sent and I am currently out of $500 of my own money that they are not returning back to me. I am still trying to get my original $500 back. It was a scam 100%

I was also contacted by them for a position I applied to on indeed as well. I had a gut feeling this was not legit so I investigated further seeing what I could find on this entity.
Everything seems legit, but that doesn't mean it's actually this company that's hiring at all. I downloaded the signal app, but didn't know how to add Mrs Mea as instructed, so I googled the number and found this. Good thing I followed my gut. I uninstalled signal and avoided this scam. BEWARE out there, scammer prey on honest people all the time so listen to your gut and check them out first.

Below are the list of materials needed for this position since you'd be working from home: 4 in one (fax, scanner, copier and printer) eW , Zebra ZM400 Bar-code printer and cards, 4 drawer cabinet and office desks, HP Pavilion HDX18-1180US 18.4-Inch Laptop (2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB Hard Drive, Blu-ray Drive, Vista Premium) Peachtree Complete Accounting Software, CYMA IV for Windows Accounting Software, MYOB Business Essentials Accounting Software, QuickBooks Pro Accounting Software and a Time Tracker.

This shopping list appears in a lot of scam reports online almost verbatim. I found one on LinkedIn from 2023.

I was offered an interview via the Signal app. They then did the interview via chat and said that I would need some materials to work from home and offered me a startup paycheck to cover the cost of the materials as long as I provided them with an address and phone number.
