This scammer listed a property in South End neighborhood of Boston for rent at a low rate on craigslist. The property fraudulently listed for rent was 530 Massachusetts Avenue **** **. He asked us for our information and began to set up lease info etc until we called the buyer’s agent from the sale listing we found in public records from when this unit was actually sold. The buyer’s real estate agent told us this property was not for rent and the buyers are currently living in it. The rental listing was taken down from craigslist before we could collect more information under the guise of “having too many applications” and the scammer continued to gather information. We began to suspect it was a fraud and this is the point at which we called the real estate agent from the official listing — we did not pay any money but of course that likely would have ended up resulting in the scammer trying to take our money. The scammer also invented excuses for why we could not see the property.
