Some one by the names of Susan Branch sent me an email using my school email address to inform me there was a job opportunity to be a supplier for a company. Since my school usually advertises jobs for some majors, I thought it was legit since they used my school email. They then told me I would get in touch with someone who will help me with my first assignment (like an orientation). They sent me $1989.25 to reduct my first salary of $300 then use the rest to send it to a supplier for them to buy office things. I stupidly deposited the check into my bank account. The check even had a security code and when I deposited it, it said I had $300 available for immediate use and the other 1600 something would be used to buy whatever they instructed me. So I thought this was legit since my bank said that. Anyway, after the funds where cleared, I was told to withdraw money and send it to someone in Florida via money order. Keep in mind, I am only 19, just finished my somphore year and had no idea about fake checks and money orders or that someone would stoop so low to prey on an already broke college kid. So I did what they said and sent the money because I thought I had finally got a job. At around 8pm, I receive a notification from my bank that I have gone into overdraft and my account is in the negatives. I freak out, I didn’t even sleep that night. The next day, I woke up at 8am (when the Usps post office opens) and was on hold for almost 2 hrs trying to intercept the package I had sent which was going using 1 day delivery and would be delivered before 12pm. I tried so had to get Usps to hold the package but they kept transferring me to other people. I even called the post office in Florida and they didn’t pick up. So I asked “agent” why the check he sent me had bounced and he kept assuring me he was talking to the banks and everything was going to be fine and I shouldn’t call my bank. I went on to call my bank anyway and found out that the scammers had reported the check they sent me as stolen or lost so there banks took bank the Money which meant the $1,500 I drew out was using my own account. Since I only had $99 on my card, i went into over draft and am now being blamed for the fraud by Bank of America and they even shut down my checking and saving account and charging me all the money I didn’t even spend. Am literally so broke, responsible for a huge bill that wasn’t even my fault and very scared to tell my parents about this since they have always warned me about online scams and will hold this over my head till I die probably if I told them. Anyway, I failed a complaint with the Usps postal service police and also a police report but they literally said they wasn’t nothing they could do and I just have to wait for a police report to take to the banks.
