I was looking for a reputable Cattery that offered Maine [censored] cats. I found Blusteel Maine [censored]'s website and put in a request for one of their kittens. I was asked to put down a $500 deposit to reserve him and to send it via Venmo or Zelle. I did this and then we worked out the full price for the Kitten was $1600 which is in line with the cost of these kittens. Then there was a delivery fee which i paid. There were issues with sending the payment as i could not send it in full all at once. Zelle and Venmo don't let you send large amounts to people normally until you build up transactions with them. So we did some back and forth with Zelle. Then after that was done they scheduled the delivery and the delivery company had fees and such. I paid those with Venmo and Zelle because again you can't send large payments at once with new people. I figured this was a small Cattery that was looking to make some extra money and didn't see an issue with it. The communication back and forth was good. So in total to this email i send $1600 and $300 for delivery for a total of $1900. Then the delivery company contacted me and had more fees. They had a rental fee for the carrier cage ($900, $700, $500) or and option to rent, choose one of the tiers, and the rental fee was 70% refundable of whatever tier you chose and i chose the $500 option. There was a $200 insurance fee that would be refunded fully upon delivery. Then there was a $100 overnight fee because I couldn't get them the full fee for the carrier to be delivered that day. Then there was a $200 fee because the kitten didn't have the rabies vaccine and it was required by WA state. At this point i started to get really suspicious as all these fees popped up and keep getting more and more and they kept saying they did stuff and i had to pay. I told them this was the final amount and to call me if they had anything else. Now...nothing, no contact back, no responses to emails, no kitten being delivered.
I thought this was a legitimate website. They had Twitter and Instagram, there was no reported scams i could find regarding them or people claiming they were scammed. It was a basic website with pictures, stories, contact forms, everything i could find looked like a legit small Cattery starting up and having great feedback from everyone. It was only near the end where I started getting suspicious with all the adding fees,.
There is another website, email, and contact for the supposed "delivery company" that is tied into this scam as well. It is PetCare Express which appears to be another legitimate business. Emails came from [email protected], and the website they sent me to for tracking was https://petcarexpress.us/track-shipment/# with Tracking # PTE015400519518WA inputted where you see all my info, the updates, etc. All of this seemed legit and fully ok. They played on my ignorance of these scams and preyed upon my wanting to have this kitten, knowing they are expensive, and being ok with paying fees to ensure that the kitten is delivered safely, securely, and healthy. All of this seemed legit. Even with the different email addresses to send money with Zelle, or using Venmo they all checked out. Even in Venmo it showed the person i sent money to had other transactions with other people. All looking like a legit person.
I want to provide all info i can to get them shut down and also recoup my $2900 they scammed from me if possible. There is no local place for me to buy one of these kittens, so i tried finding a legit online provider. I have all the emails between us and i have the transaction history in Venmo and Zelle to the accounts that i sent money to. I think they are able to keep operating because no one is taking the time to turn them in. I am more than happy to provide all info to you, to the FBI, whoever. These people need to be stopped, money returned, and prosecuted.
