Blatantsoultions.com Reports & Reviews (1)

(Background) My dad is elderly with Parkinson's. He is hard of hearing and losing his memory and critical thinking due to the disease process, but he is still independent. He is very intelligent but not very tech-savvy. I usually do his tech support (daughter) and have lived next door in an adjacent house on our ranch our whole life for the most part. Recently in July 2022, he moved to a town 30min away due to his health and my mom's. I didn't move to town until Jan 2023, so he didn't want to bother me to drive an hour round trip to fix his computer.

His HP printer stopped working. So he called them to fix it and chose to handle it himself. They fixed it and said it was a "virus" on his computer that was causing the problem and suggested he get this company to help him with protecting his computer. I do not know if HP was an inside person or naive to the scam.

He looked the address up online and called Blatant Solutions. His main representative was Kevin, who had a (very heavy accent, perhaps middle eastern) after speaking to another person initially. They contacted him by email and phone. Also, they had two programs running on the computer and full permission to the hard drive on his iMac. They would say there was a "virus" or "breach", and call him on the phone or the computer would go off like an "alarm" and scare my mom when my dad wasn't home. So they would have to contact him he would go through the entire computer and run the terminal looking for the "breach". Finally, my dad admitted what was going on. So I played dumb for a moment to see what he was up to and watched what he was doing so I could see for myself. I also spoke with him and had him explain himself to me.

He told dad that the initial payment was "lifetime" dad paid with a check for $1200. Then he said someone named "Jim" from AZ had breached the system and disabled their "defenses," and we "allowed" it so we shouldn't click on links or go on public wifi's. It's like opening the door to our home. So he needed dad to pay $800 more for a year or $1200 more for lifetime encryption. I told dad no way. Ended his call, and then I started researching the business.

I called apple support. We locked him out of the computer, disabled his access to everything and, repaired the HD and, changed passwords, added 2-factor authenticators where there weren't any. We reported it to the FTC and now to you as well. I believe they are preying on the elderly and the uniformed for easy money. Sadly this is so common these days. Dad wouldn't have called them if a reputable company did not recommend them! He also said he saw they were in the BBB, so he knew to check and see if they were legitimate, but either he didn't look at the correct company in BBB, or they were listed, and now they are not because I don't see them listed now when I search. Thank you for helping keep consumers safe.
