Text from Anne Tawney-Recruiting Manager. This is the 10th email I have received in the last 2 weeks with exact wording regarding a "Virtual Assistant" position.
Looked for info on LinkedIn and sent an email to the company. Also, a position I never applied for on any job board.

The company is real but the contacts are not (Anne Tawney and Stephen Gelnar are not employees or recruiters for Black Bear.

Scammer's phone # 626-508-1156, Name is Anne Tawney

I got contacted by this individual about a job offer for a job on a job board I didn't recall being a member of, they had me fill out some forms which seemed innocent. Then they started talking about sending me an e check for work from home equipment and I'd have to pay it back to the vendor. Instant red flag. Called them out on it and they played dumb.

Scammer’s Number Steve Gelnar (325) 238-8579

I received a text from a Steve Gelnar who identified himself as a recruiting manager. He asked me to complete some forms in which I did which seemed harmless but then he was really pressuring me to create a new account with Microsoft live and that was the sign that something wasn’t right. Why do I have to create a new account when I already have one.

If you get a text from someone and they do not even attempt to get a background check on you to me there is something wrong!

He wrote me this
Following serious consideration...
You have qualified for the post of "Virtual Assistant" and you now have the opportunity to demonstrate your passion, charisma, diligence, and ability to be a productive employee. The job offer letter will be emailed to you.

He told me I was supposed to receive it right away and I didn’t receive any email message!

Type of a scam Employment

I received a text from a Stephen Gelnar who identified himself as the recruiting manager. He asked me to complete two forms that asked general information but did include a couple of more personal/identifying details regarding bank name and date of birth. At this point I started looking up more information about the company and its people including this guy. He doesn’t seem to exist. Anywhere. There were several texts sent and replied to. One of the last ones asked me to download a new app on my phone. The app itself isn’t bad or concerning. He said I’d receive an email tomorrow. I looked at their site and social media profiles, but they do not have any jobs listed. Plus, it’s a Sunday. Do companies really recruit or hire on Sundays?
