I bought several of these safety alarms to give to family and friends. The alarm is on a carabiner clip for a key chain. When you pulll a pin, a siren goes off and a light flashes, which is said to help give you time to get away in a threatening situation. One of my relatives recently sent me a What's App message, saying that she had accidentally used it 3 times (it went off when she dropped her keys), and the Birdie sounded like a cricket, not a siren. She was very concerned, saying that it was not reliable and had already told her girls and her friends of her experience. I bought the Birdie in April 2021, and on the website it says that the batteries will last for 40 continuous minutes. She used hers for maybe a minute, tops, with all 4 experiences. I wrote to the company, telling them what had happened, and they replied that probably the batteries need to be changed, and told me how to do that. I asked how a person was supposed to tell that a battery should be changed, and they said that if the light didn't flash, that was an indication that the battery needed to be changed. Since the light only flashes when the pin is pulled, I asked if there was a way to tell when the batteries needed to be changed besides the alarm failing to work. They did not address my question, just reiterated that the batteries most likely needed to be changed, but offered a refund of that alarm because I was upset. I said, Isn't it giving women a false sense of security for them to think that an alarm will work, when it may not and they have no way of knowing? That it may actually put them in more danger than if they didn't have it? Again, they did not address what I said, just confirmed that they had given me a refund. I think the claims on their website that their product empowers women and makes them feel safer is false and dangerous. I think that their product is flawed and they are not willing to admit it. I think they need to be held accountable.
