On October 9, 2015, a large window that looked like many other Apple notifications popped up on my screen and would not let me exit out of it. Never experiencing a pop-up window on my MacBook before, I took the notification very seriously. The window stated that Apple had detected a serious threat to my computer and advised me that that I could lose everything on my computer if I were to restart or turn off my computer. It stated to call the number on the screen immediately. When I called a women answered, she said her name was Rebacca Fox, badge ID number 2015100902, with a call back number 844-253-0210. She claimed to be Apple Support, she gave me no indication that she was from another company. She told me that my computer was being hacked and convinced to download LogMeIn Rescue to gain remote access to my computer. She showed me some Event Viewer on my computer and told me that I have over 100 files that were currently being hacked and used scare tactics like telling me if we don’t fix the problem now all of my files will be hacked until my computer crashes. I bought two years worth of tech support from a company that I BELIEVED TO BE APPLE! She told me she would be emailing me a receipt and their tech support representative would begin remotely “fixing” my computer. Once I seen that the receipt was from a company named Binary Services out of Jacksonville, FL. I immediately called an Apple support number to see if it had really been Apple that I was previously talking to. She stated that it was not them, and I had been scammed. She urged me to shut down my computer, as the scammers were still downloading applications to “fix” my computer. I then immediately called my bank to try to cancel the transaction, as well as my card, and report the scam.
