Ad in the MRT classifieds for Office/Clerical PT Person ran on weekend of 1-28-2018 with an e-mail address and a Midland telephone #(432 area code). After replying to ad, corresponding by e-mail about possibly filling the position continued for the next week as I was told he was in CA. Questions were e-mailed to me and I responded, although some of his questions I did not answer directly as they were not allowed (i.e., age for instance). A list of tasks, again by e-mail, that were expected to be done was provided to me (receiving and forwarding packages on his behalf with me being allowed to open and look to verify contents, buying some merchandise such as electronics and clothing and picking up personal mail. It sounded straightforward enough. Then getting closer to the weekend, I received a text from a different number (NJ area code) At the end of the week it seemed that the prospect of being hired was more promising and an assignment was texted. Instructions were to await a check, deposit it, take out my agreed weekly salary and scan and e-mail back a copy of the deposit slip. Odd, and I would not have provided any images with my account information, and when the package arrived (from New York address) a check for more than 10 times the weekly salary amount was in the package, payable to me with 'Ref. Commission Due', from an Escrow company in CA. I was supposed to deposit the check to my personal account so, of course I called to verify funds and was told it was a fraudulent check and no prior instructions were provided on how the additional funds were going to be used or handled. The Escrow company has had other checks from people who responded to Craigs List ads.

I received an email on February 15, 2017 stating that the gentleman that I have been in conversation with (we are going to get married) had contacted a lawyer about getting married and we needed to fill out some paperwork. I was to be contacted by a lawyer stating that I needed to send him $500.00 to get the paperwork going. I have been emailing the lawyer, *** ***, regarding sending him $500.00 via Western Union or MoneyGram to him through Walmart made payable to *** ***, Columbus, OH. So far I have received 10 total emails. I have not sent any money anywhere and I contacted the BBB.
