I was contacted on LinkedIn by a man with a seemingly reputable background about an opening for a part time sales position at a jewelry company. I was told to email the company of my interest which I did. The “company” got back to me and asked for to complete a sample assignment and answer some normal interview questions. Everything seemed fine except that I couldn’t find the company on LinkedIn but they had a real looking website and a real location in france, they said they were opening a new location in Baltimore. I think the French company might actually be real but the “new” location is definitely fake. I asked to speak to someone from the company and they didn’t answer my response and I noticed the profile of the man that initially contacted me on LinkedIn has been deleted. The biggest red flag to me was that the job offer included a paragraph about the company transferring funds to my personal checking account to use with clients, I’ve never heard of this before. They did a really good job of making this opportunity seem legit up until that point which is scary.
