They were running a very elaborate check fraud scam.  I deposited the check but have already alerted my bank so the money should leave the account by the time I get back.  I was given 2 interviews and even sent a job offer letter, they spoofed the ligit companies email so that if you are not paying a tun of attention it looked legitimate.  I only got supper sketched out when they just sent me a check so I started digging of course that was after I deposited the check because I was still on the high of getting an amazing job offer.  Apparently in many cases, the "new employee" is sent a check to buy office equipment form specific companies run by the scammers.  The check is bogus, but the money still shows up in the account in about a day as required by federal banking regulations, so it appears to be legitimate.  The check then turns out to be counterfeit so the bank takes back all the money.  I have not purchased anything and have put a lock on that card until the money is gone.
