David Chavez agreed to renovate our garage into an apartment by late November of 2021. He request half of the $28,500 up front for materials and fixtures. He kept stating he was having issues due to supply shortages. After passing the deadline, he request more money to help incentive workers. The workmanship was terrible with bubbles and streaks in the tape and float and poor flooring job. On December 13th, he sends a text stating that he will not be able to complete the remaining 60% of the job and he was filing bankruptcy. No refund of our $20,000 was given. After speaking to one of his workers, I discovered he was short on that worker’s pay by $1,600. Also, I discovered David was still working other jobs. Now that I’m trying to complete the job myself, I’ve discovered he didn’t even put insulation in the exterior walls and the electrical wiring he said was complete was far behind. He also stole the materials from the job site. Do not hire this individual!
