Scammer called as my bank to check to see if I made certain purchase/charges on my debit card. I could not see the charges on my accounts. I was told that is because they are being processed and held until they were verified by me. They first gained my trust by telling me the number they were calling from was the same as the number on the back of my debit card. It was true. Now I know they can make it look as though they are calling from any number they want. Scammer could see all my bank account totals. They new the last four of my social security and my mother's maiden name which build more trust. Said they were cancelling my cards and would call back in a few hours after that had been completed. Three DAYS (not hours) later a woman called back on the original scammers behalf saying more charges were made (airbnb, airlines, western union). Told me I had to download an app on my phone that would allow them to check my accounts (App was Deskin). It allowed them to see my phone screen. They had me transfer money between my bank accounts (in specific odd amounts) that resulted with most of it in the account that had been sacrificied. Once they asked for my bank account password I realized they were scammers. However, they also tried to get me to download the Western Union app and set up an account with that. Lots of signs I should have been aware of. I learned DO NOT give out any personal info if the bank/credit card company calls you. Instead, hang up and call back to the number on the back of your card and inquire as to whether they just called and if there are any problems with your account. Luckily, I was able to call the bank immediately and freeze all my accounts so they go no money.
