Please read the following email that I received from a Robert green via email from my Photography website. It didn’t take me but a few sentences to realize this guy was trying to scam me. It’s one of the most basic scams I see as a photographer. The scammer wants to hire you as their photographer hey the photographer and pay you with a fake check.

Hello ...,

Thanks for the reply and the interest to work with us on this project. Your works are really impressive and aesthetic; I would like to work with you on this gig. There are few details you need to know:

Wardrobe will be picked by our stylist based on urban trends for the season. We expect you to shoot in an urban gritty or/and natural outdoor look with clean product focused images.

You will have to do little retouching if pictures can be taken with natural lighting. Final images will be 300dpi or larger, mix of rectangular and verticals, to be delivered via file share. Images will be used as an editorial content on hypebeast.com for 12 months.

An agency will provide a male and a female fashion model, makeup and hair stylists. The budget for the project is $5600 (photographer gets $2000 and $3600 for the talents). You will be paid $700 upfront plus the talents budget while your balance payment will be paid after sending us proof that the job has been done; usually watermarked images.

Photographers we hire usually take on the responsibilities of coordinating the shoot, selecting location, and disbursing fees. An advance payment of $4300 will be issued prior to the shoot; this covers your $700 upfront and fee for talents’ fee payable to their manager.

If you’re comfortable with the above, please reply.

Regards,

Robert Green.

Thanks. Sorry to have so many questions but it is very intriguing and interesting to learn how this all works.

I asked my accountant about payment. She suggested you pay me either in cash or through a Bank card. How is payment made? I can’t accept checks.

What model agency will I be working with? Are the models over 18?

Can I please read a copy of the contract/model release before I send my personal information?

Again, thank you for being so patient and answering my questions. Your approach to this is somewhat different than other commercial work I have done.

Donna

And then this...

Hello Donna,

I want you to know that i have contacted our accounting department and they made me realize that the only means of issuing out the project budget for now is through check. Also the agency that will provide the models, Hair stylist, and MUA is Barton and Queck and you can get in touch with them through one of their agent, Adam Smith [email protected].

The contract can only be sent to you when you are ready to take up the contract.

Regards,

Robert Green.
