I was contacted via text message from a thanking me for applying for their job post that I know for a fact I did not apply for. The position was for "Customer Service Representative/Data Entry." I was invited for a job briefing and interview though Google Hangout, and was told to contact the Hiring Manger was listed as Mrs. Amber. It was also stated "Time: ASAP." Although the text message provided me with a verification code for during my interview, I was never asked for my verification code during my interview. What first raised my suspicions was that it seemed as if not an actual person was replying to me, but maybe some sort of automated system. I thought possibly this is what companies might be doing nowadays to screen and hire potential employees. I was provided with a real company website, to review while I wait for replies. I was also asked which job I preferred, Customer Service Representative or Data Entry, and was provided with job descriptions for both. I was "interviewed" during this chat and was surprised when I was told that I was hired. The compensation seemed too good to be true and there was still a lot of questions that I didn't have answers to. I was told that I would be sent a check to buy the necessary equipment I would need for my position. I was told to log back in the following morning at 8 am so I would be connected with my training supervisor. I was still skeptical when the conversation concluded and did some research. Neither the company site, indeed, or glassdoor, had any open positions open for Customer Service Representative, or Data Entry. I also found that multiple site warned for interview scams and the signs to look for and google hangout was an outlet for these scams. The only information I provided was my name, email, address and phone number, which I now feel silly about doing. I have since blocked the email address from my google hangout account.
