Auto City Reports & Reviews (1)

- Chesapeake, VA, USA

I purchased a 2014 Nissan Murano from Auto City at 3512 Airline Blvd. I drove it off the lot and the Engine Malfunction light came on. I took it to a Nissan dealership and they advised me the catalytic converter required replacing. I purchased the vehicle "As Is" so I did not expect assistance from Auto City. I called to inquire about when the license plates would be available. The salesman asked me how the car was and I told him it was in the shop to replace the catalytic converter. The salesman said he would speak to the sales manager and have someone call me back. Kim Hicks called back and said they can have the car repaired for a lower price than the Nissan dealership and they would cover half of the cost to repair it. I agreed and they ordered the parts. I took the car to Auto City on the day the car was to be repaired and they said the car would be ready that afternoon. I returned later that afternoon after receiving a call advising me the car was repaired by Lee's Auto Service located at 3514 Scott St., Portsmouth, VA 23707. I paid half the price of the repair totaling $350. Kim Hicks said she did not have a receipt from Lee's Auto Service yet but should have it the next day. I went out of town for two days. Several days later the Engine Malfunction light comes back on. I connected an automobile code scanner to the car and it indicated the exact same problem - Replace the Catalytic Converter. I went to Lee's Auto Service and spoke to the owner directly. I asked him if he performed the work on my vehicle. The owner said he had been called by Auto City about the cost but they had never brought the car to him to repair. I went to Auto City to ask for the receipt. Kim said that since the work was official a transaction between Lee's Auto Service and Auto City the receipt she wrote me for the work was the only one I would receive. At this point I am suspecting Auto City committed fraud - charging me for a repair they claimed they had completed but never did. I called the Portsmouth Police Department and asked them to meet me at Auto City. The police officer arrived and I told him my side of the events. He spoke to Kim and she said they would be happy to complete the work. I asked for my money back. She said she did not have the authority to issue a refund and I would have to wait until tomorrow. The officer asked what I wanted to do and I said I want to sue them in civil court. The officer asked Kim for her driver's license and the business' business license. Kim and the officer went in the office for several minutes and the officer returned with a check for $350. If I had not called the police I feel I would never have received my money back. This dealership blatantly lied about the repairs and took my money. Fortunately, my money was returned to me with the assistance of the Portsmouth Police Department.
