2004 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Unlimited $1200

Fishy from the get-go! I’m an eBay seller/buyer. So, when “Andrea” said that I would need to provide my full name, address and phone number, and “she” would pass the information along to eBay for the sale; I knew something was criminal. I have two little kids and staying at a friends Air bNb. So. Hell-nah! I’m not risking anything for this extremely under priced vehicle. I happen to know for a fact that a 1998 Toyota Tacoma can sell for over $2,000. I uploaded photos of the conversation to this website. I’m not sure what, if anything, can be done, but as a former investigator, this burns me.

Type of a scam Online Purchase

These people will post the sale of a fantastic vehicle for sale on the Facebook Marketplace. They will post a couple pictures of a great deal with an unbelievable price. For instance, a 2003 red Jeep Wangler for $1200 or a 2004 Toyota Tacoma for a low price under $4000. When you inquire about the vehicle, the response is from someone who is in the military or their husband has died and they must sell the vehicle before returning to tour duty. The exchange is promoted as an ebay auction service and every one of the vehicle sales require you to pay money to ebay for them to hold until you are sent the vehicle. When you ask about details or about seeing the vehicle before sending money, they always disappear and move on to someone else. I have not send any money yet but because of ALL the ebay sales of these vehicles on Facebook Marketplace, I'm sure someone has and has lost their money. Please be aware of this scam so it does not happen to you! I'm sharing because it has been the same story for at least 6 vehicles I have look at on the Facebook Marketplace website.

I've seen some similar things, on Market Place, with the story that you described. As I was investigating, cross search, etc, I began to feel like some scammers copied & pasted legitimate sellers response. Then edit portions of the responses. In an attempt to try to come across as a truthful seller. Making it hard for the few good & honest ppl that remain in this cold world. I found quite a few when I was cross referencing & cross seeing images. I wasted NO time letting those parties know that they were busted! However, along with some other verification techniques and speaking with eBay representatives & taking each step cautiously. I've been proceed with a vehicle purchase, successfully, so far.
