I received an email about a week prior to receiving the piece of mail about this specific scam. In the email, they stated very similar things as the piece of mail did. They wanted me to go 'secret shop' a Walmart and receive $300 in return. Realizing that the email was definitely a scam, I deleted it and did not think anything else of it. Today, I received a piece of mail with a counterfeit check inside for $1,770 and a letter (which I have uploaded for all to read). I thought it was very strange that not only did this entity have my email address, but also my actual home address as well. I called the bank on the counterfeit check and reported to them what I had received. The representative mentioned that this has been going on for quite some time now and that they have had several people call them with the same story and even bigger amounts on their checks. When I first moved out here I was the victim of a scam and it was something very similar to this. I have since then learned my lesson and keep a close eye on things of this nature. There is NO way that an actual legitimate secret shopping business would send you over the amount needed for your payment. If they say that you will receive $300, you should be getting a check for $300. You also should have signed up for an activity such as this so you would have some sort of reference instead of a random email or piece of postal mail. Also, if they are going to try and use the security features such as the 'heat mark', they should at least make sure it works before sending it out. That was literally the first thing I did was try the two security features and when they didn't work at all, I contacted the bank listed.
