Received multiple calls over several months with voice messages supposedly from AT&T Direct TV offering half off our direct tv bill. Called and the person answered posing as Direct TV. Said that Ebay was underwriting the promotion and we would need to purchase an Ebay gift card for $400, call a number given as the billing dept to activate the card which would pay for 10 months of Direct TV and after ten months we would be billed automatically. Realizing this sounded fishy, we called AT&T Direct TV customer service phone number off one of our monthly invoices. We were told this was definitely a scam. The following are the text messages received from the scammers:

Dear Customer, Auth Code: DTV500 Thank you for signing up with the Promotion. Please call the billing department at 1800-511-8205 once you get the EBAY Cards, for an amount of $400. Regards, Direct TV

When we didn't follow through, we received the following threatening text message from 844-491-2029:

Sir/Mam, We regret to inform you that your services will be deactivated in next 1 hour and $400 penalty charges will be imposed on your account, as your payment for the Promotion is still pending for which you signed up. Kindly call the billing department at 1800-511-8205 to resolve the issue. Regards, ATandT
