I was contacted via email about a job application. As I am applying for jobs currently, it did not surprise me. They asked me to set up Google hangout for an interview and add a [email protected] to my contacts. Then, he provided some information about a job to be done from home, which sounded somewhat overpaid. We arranged for an interview for the next day. The next day, in place of interview, he just sent a bunch of questions to me, which I answered and returned. A couple of hours later he contacted and informed me that I had been approved. He gave me some information about the procedure of training etc. and asked me to send my full name, home address and phone number via email to his boss, with an address ending at @atossyntelhire.com. Then I received an email from the same address with an employment offer that I was asked to print, sign, and email back. While doing so, I asked them to provide me with their address and phone number. The address they provided was the headquarter address of Atos-Syntel in Michigan, while when I asked about their time zone in hangouts, he mentioned Central (Michigan is in Eastern). The phone they provided was a VoIP though, with no name associated with it. The next day at 8.00 am I received a nearly $5000 check via FedEx, which they said was to buy office equipment and software to work from home. Then, promptly he contacted again to ask about the check and asked me to deposit it at once and send a copy of the deposit slip to him. I asked him to provide me with a company phone number to talk to him, but he said that was their phone number and that the job was legitimate and that I send the check back if I did not want the job. However, I did not hear back from him anymore. I also tried to contact Atos-Syntel in different ways, to ask them about this, with no success.
