I received an email about a job I had applied to on LinkedIn, but I had no record of having applied to the company (ASRC Industrial, received email messages from “Joel Marmo” and “David Mayor”) and figured it might’ve been an Easy Apply as I’ve been applying for many positions. I was invited to fill out a list of interview questions. The next day, I was offered employment, and a separate email came from “HR” with an employment agreement. Then “David” reached out via text to say he would email a check for me to purchase a computer and asked me to print it at home then deposit it, which I tried. The bank said the funds would be on hold until 2/15. He said that was too long to wait and asked if I could pay some amount toward the equipment and be reimbursed once the funds were available because they let employees keep the equipment, so it needed to be invoiced to them directly. I asked what the minimum payment would be, and he said $500-1000. I said that wouldn’t work. He then asked how much I could afford to pay the vendor directly. I said I wasn’t comfortable paying the vendor any amount. He said ok and that he’d contact Finance and get back to me. I never heard anything else.
