Patient rec'd a random call from company stating that she should have genetics done. When questioned she divulged + family hx of prostate and breast cancer and a personal hx/o breast cancer, so the rep told her she needed a 44 gene panel done. Fax was rec'd. I reviewed and noted that this patient actually has no living first or second degree family members and no biological children, thus no need for genetics as she has no one to pass it to.

When we called to question them they were vague, kept saying "totally covered be medicare" - untrue. Genetic testing is ONLY covered when ordered by geneticist, not PCP. They would not give us a web address unless we provided DOB and name which we declined.

Upon looking up the listed address, it's a residential home in Coral Springs,FL. Had this not been caught, she would have been responsible for several thousand dollars. Additionally, other Core offices here in NH have gotten this via fax as well. I have advised all staff to ignore.
