An ad popped up on Facebook indicating I'd won a watch: I only had to pay for shipping and handling. (It seemed too good to be true and I should have trusted my instincts.) I paid for shipping and handling; the watch came - it was too big, but not worth paying shipping and handling to return - low and behold just shy of a month later that same company tried to charge me an additional $98.41 claiming I'd agreed to test the watch out and had to cancel my subscription in order to avoid additional charges. This is not what the original ad said; this is not what I agreed to. The only reason I learned of the charges was the fraud prevention services at my financial institution identified it as a possible fraud. They provided me with a phone number of the company trying to bill the charges. I called them and was told I'd agreed to this and hadn't cancelled in time, and well, maybe they could give me 25% off. Then, well, maybe they could give me 50% off. There is no percentage off if I haven't agreed to pay for anything! When the supervisor came on the line, who identified himself as Matt, he started talking down to me, indicating that it was unfortunate that I hadn't understood what I'd read or perhaps never read the terms at all. I was very angry as I knew precisely what I'd read and they were not honoring the terms of the agreement. He said this was America and unfortunately I had to honor the terms of the agreement. I offered to ship the watch back to him, and he kept telling me to just pay the $20; it wouldn't be worth it to send the watch back - but for $5.86 shipping, it would have been worth it. Beware of pop-up ads on Facebook! I let him know I'd be spreading the word about his organization, contacting the ScamPulse.com, and opting out-of Facebook. He hung up on me when I called him out on his unethical behavoir, he objected to my characterizing his portrayal of the facts as baloney, (though I used stronger language), claiming it was a "family company," which I found ironic.
