There was an advertisement for employment with this company. Was directed to use a third party communication source, Telegram. I did everything I was supposed to do and filled out what looked to be legit paperwork with a W-4. They tried to email me a scanned check and I never received it. They said they would be mailing it to me via USPS. I received an empty mailer. I reported it to them and asked if I should be filing a complaint with USPS. They said they would handle it. Then they tried to email me again with a scanned check. Didn't work. Then they attached a scanned check to the Telegram messages. There was no way I was going to deposit that into my account. The person then got incredibly upset and said they would be withdrawing my application. I asked for confirmation of destruction of my personal information. I never received any correspondence after this. I have emailed many times and this is what it has come to.

I was contacted for a Proofreader job from a place calling itself Arcadia Publishing. They had a website that seemed legitimate. I'd even seen some of their books in stores. I was contacted via email about a job interview conducted online. Loathe as I am to say, I went through a grueling one hour "interview" from HR on Telegram (messaging app). After this, I was hired (after scoring 90% on the interview - only now am I shaking my head, realizing how dumb I was). They sent over documents to sign (that's how they got a signature). After this started the transfer of money. You see, in order to do my job they had to have me set up a "mini-office", meaning I'd have to buy a laptop, accounting software. So, they asked what my limit was. They ended up trading three checks, $3150 in total. Then, we had to cycle through various apps because the transfers weren't working. Eventually after all these failures, they asked me to go to Target or CVS to buy eBay cards. That's when I realized what was going on. I should mention how pushy these people were. Should've been my very first clue.
