Hello, this text is regarding the Work From Home for Data Entry Position, We're delighted to invite you for an interview. If you are available at the moment, You are required to download and set up a Microsoft Teams Account, add Jocelyn Tinsley the Hiring Manager, and her Via Microsoft Teams with this link (https://teams.live.com/l/invite/FEAH3z8a_9ltOj9AQQ) on Microsoft teams, Thank you!. JOB ID AP-905
I was running errands with my wife and asked if later in the day was fine. They were accommodating, which wasn't initially suspicious. I made it home in time for the remote interview, but I had never used Microsoft Teams before. I assumed there would be camera usage and it would be a bit like a typical interview. Everything was done through chat only which I guess seemed harmless at first. The more I interacted with this "Jocelyn Tinsley" the more things seemed off. At first it appeared either she was a remarkably fast typist or she was just copy pasting info and questions in the chat. She did link an "about us" regarding Apero Health, so I looked it up on my other monitor and their page just seemed extremely plain and generic. So I clicked on the contact link at the bottom and it took me to another website entirely at https://www.ycombinator.com/companies/apero-health/jobs.
There were 3 jobs listed and none were as a remote Data Entry position. Next I looked through their "people" and the supposed hiring manager I was speaking with wasn't listed. I asked if this position was related to the other job I had applied for. She said "No, indeed forwarded your resume to us." A quick google search later implied that indeed doesn't forward resumes to companies you haven't applied to. This started to make me a bit suspicious but I continued to answer her normal interview questions. Several months ago someone had tried to target my wife with one of those job scams where they try to give you a check to buy "work equipment" but I caught on to the scam before they could defraud us of any money. So when this "Jocelyn" said "The first phase of your training will be centered on you mini-office setup..." etc etc then "In the second phase, trainees will imbibe a direct-stringent approach to getting themselves acquainted with their office equipment (software & hardware) and the company's payroll system." The grammar and syntax just felt off, and again with this focus on equipment after I had already confirmed I have my own printer and workstation. Then "She" said "Whether or not you have an assignment or task, you will be paid $25.50/hr for 6-8 hours (Mon-Fri) as long as you are online during the stated training hours. "The primary reason behind your salary is being online during work hours".
So I'm supposed to get paid on flexible hours whether I work or not? So all kinds of red flags were making me uneasy, but they didn't request any personal information from me. So I cautiously proceeded. They said they sent our conversation to a superior for review and were ready to give me their decision. Here's how that went:
Her: I just received a response from my superiors, are you ready for the company decision regarding our interview?
Me: Yes
Her: Congratulations and a warm welcome from the whole team at (Apero Health, Inc.). We are always working to.. build a strong, passionate, and communicative team, and we believe that you'll fit right in with us.

Me: What are the next steps?
Her: That sounds good, you must be online(Teams) Every weekday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm during training and it is flexible C.S.T). You will be given a series of tasks/assignments on a day-to-day basis.

Her: This means as soon as your working equipment is available, my superiors will reach you in person with your position offer documents and your working papers. Also, they will put you through our company guidelines under US Human Resources Laws and Regulations
You would be eligible for Benefits after 60 days of working with the company

I asked for the next steps in the hiring process and she says "Sounds good"? The company can count on my devotion? Even though I could find no other indications online of a scam, I did see someone post an extremely similar interaction with something called Apree Health. The random email, the microsoft teams interview with no video or voice. Everything just seemed off at this point so I blocked them and decided to make a report before any of my personal info was at risk.
