Type of a scam Employment

I submitted a resume for a job as a customer service rep on the Career Builder website. I received a response, but the job was for a personal assistant & the potential employer says he was an artist that buys and sells ancient artifacts, ideas, etc. and most of his business was done out of Canada and other countries. I answered the questionairre and was told i was hired. I was also told i would have equipment shipped to me to work with such as a laptop, hard case & security system for the computer, internet capabilities, printer, fax, scanner all in one & and a cell phone for the artist's personal business only. I was then told i would be sent a check for a sign on bonus & shipping cost for the equipment. I received a check for over $4500, which came from a produce store & was told to deposit the check,send a copy of the deposit slip & funds would be released to cover the check. What does this sound like? Red flags went up when i was told to send a copy of the deposit slip with my banking info on it to someone i've never spoken to or met.
