When trying to get online my MacBook came up with a virus detected message stating to call tech support for assistance at 1-844-316-5185. The person who answered walked my through simple steps, but without knowing what was happening convinced me they needed to remotely access my computer to support. Showed me how "foreign" bodies had accessed my computer, and said how he could remove the virus for free but needed to install a firewall/virus protection package. He gave me 3 options, and when I said I'd place it on my credit card he said my checking routing number would be more secure. I debated with him but he opened the website Green by Phone and proceeded to "show" how secure it was. I didn't trust my gut and fell for it as he said I could place a pass code with the information so if someone called claiming to be from ANTEDEA I would immediately ask them for the pass code. (This way I'do know of fraudulent people.) He gave me the name RJ and said if I had any concerns the callback number while he would be working for the next 40 or so minutes to install the Firewall/Antivirus was 1-800-676-8695. I watched while the information was being installed. It seemed to take longer than necessary and I got apprehensive. The call back was from a guy named 1-800-676-8695 (his accent didn't sound like a Tom) from the number RJ gave me. He had me test that my Internet was working, and I was satisfied. He then went to a document stating I was satisfied with the service and would pay the $199. It all seemed legal. He said he needed a follow up email stating my satisfaction. Tom said his supervisor wanted to speak with me. The supervisor asked if I was satisfied, and told me "You have a very nice computer." They said I could remove the remote access and told me how to "remove" it. I immediately shut down my computer. Uncomfortable I went to my banking establishment first thing the next morning and told them the situation and was provided new accounts. My computer was scrubbed, but i can only guess they have all information off of it. I have since received multiple emails from ANTEDEA thanking me for my purchase as well as advising on fraudulent dealings from their "Technical Support" as well as one from "Emily Smith". Green by Phone has also sent multiple emails claiming the transaction on my account went through. This was after the accounts were changed. My bank has assured me if they try to contact them they will let me know so I can file a police report. I have received the emails from ANTEDEA at least once a day. I am no longer opening them as I am concerned they may contain a virus.
