I was looking for a way to make extra income and applied to be a secret shopper through a few websites. I was then contacted by phone by a guy named Thomas Hoovers stating that he received my information and that he was going to email me more information for a job. I had the feeling that this was a scam but played along with every intention of doing more research on this "company". Sure enough they sent me a check in the mail. After a bit of research I knew this was definitely a scam. See the attachments. Do Not Fall for this!

After looking at lists of ways to make money in college, mystery shopper programs seemed like a great opportunity to make easy money. After searching for a program or clicking a link in one of the articles, I filled out an application online, and received an email from the scammer later welcoming me to the team. A day or two later, he emailed again stating the premise of the first "survey". Later I received a letter with a return address beginning with a different name than used in the email, from Texas. The check in the letter was issued from the South Carolina Credit Union, and to top it off, the letter includes another phone number than in the email. My only form of communication was via email.

I received a letter in the mail addressed from a person named Jill Fraizer at 929 W Pioneer Pky, Grand Prarie, Tx 75051. When I opened the letter it was an assessment form with a questionnaire to evaluate the local Apple store. It also included what looked like an official casher's check written from a well known credit union called American Eagle for $2,995.00 but, what made it look strange tome was at the bottom of the check is said Payable through BOKF, N.A. EUFAULA OK. When I flipped the questionnaire over it had instructions that said attention Prospective Mystery Shopper and it said they wanted me to visit an apple store in my city and purchase two Apple store gift card for $1,300 each and $300 was my salary and the $55.00 left over would be for a second task. They wanted me to purchase the gift cards and then text them at 786-235-2937 so they could send someone to pick up the gift cards.

I received an email from our Career Placement Office at Webster University stating that this Anonymous Insights opportunity was a great way to make a few extra dollars while in school and was legitimate. So, I clicked the link and applied. A few days later, I received the attached email. Then received a text message from Thomas Hoover welcoming me and confirming I received the check. He messaged again one day later asking me to acknowledge receipt of the packet with the check. He messaged again 6 days later asking for an update and if I visited the store yet. I let him know I received the check and would confirm once I deposited it. My assignment was to evaluate any Apple Store in my local area and fill out the survey. I have deposited the check and am awaiting to see what will happen. I deposited the check before I saw this posted on BBB.

I was contacted via email by Thomas Hoovers for a secret shopper position I was selected for, after filling out an application on indeed. He sent me a check for $2,995 dollars stating to go to a local Apple store and purchase gift cards, and text a number for further instructions. I also noticed the date on the check was 4 days before Thomas Hoovers even emailed me the very first time! This company is a scam! Do not cash these checks! Do not attempt to work for this company!

I received this check in the mail with the value of $2955.

The paper gave me directions and a budget on how to you the money in the store I was assigned to. The assignment was to go inspect an Apple store and my salary that the budget stated that I would receive would be $300.

This is way to good to be true! Please help end this scam!
