Total money lost $1,100
Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
I rent out a parking spot in my backyard on kijiji and have been doing so for 4 years. Anne Cecile messaged me wanting to rent out the spot for the year. She said she was currently out of town but moving here, and had a mover delivering it for her. She was going to send me an E-cheque, and asked if I could pay the mover upon arrival. Thinking I would be accommodating of my new renter I agreed. She sent me $2300, with $1100 supposed to go to the mover. She put me in contact with the mover, and 5 minutes before I thought he was arriving with the car I sent the money to [email protected] I was then contacted that the mover got in a car accident and she was dealing with that and trying to get the car to me still. I then grew extremely worried that this was a scam. She tried to reassure me it wasn't, and even sent a picture of her ID and continued to message me on Whatsapp. I then immediately called RBC to try to cancel the E-Transfer but it was too late. The cheque for $2300 hasn't bounced yet, but I am fully expecting it to now.
