Type of a scam Government Agency Imposter

Received an email that said I could get an Amazon gift card between October 15th and November 11th. There was a link that didn't work so I called them. I was fooled because I was eligible to give blood in October so I thought this is why they were contacting me. I called them and of course they wanted to verify me by my birth date which I gave them. They couldn't find me in the system. They wanted to know what state I was in but I did not tell them.Somehow I felt something was wrong because I have given blood many times. I hung up did a Google search and call the number I found which I didn't realize was the same number I had just called. I got a different person and somehow I just blurted out where I was from because I thought I was speaking with the right office. She also could not find me and said they do not have a blood bank in my state which of course there is. Suspecting something wwas "off" I hung up. They just managed to get my state and my birth date which I'm a little upset about. I later called the correct number which I found via another means.
