American Long Distance Moving and Storage Reports & Reviews (11)

I am extremely upset and at a loss both emotionally and monetarily to the amount of $4400.00. There is a moving company called American Long distance Moving and storage at operating in your state that is scamming and extorting people out of money including myself which extortion is a crime. I was upset by a moving company that did not stand by their operating procedures and cancelled my move and refunded my money when this company called me and I was pressured to sign a contract that day for $7700.00 on July 11, 2021. They called me about a week before my pick up date of 7/27 and told me I would have to pay again since they did not consider 2 beds a headboard footboard and only considered it to be a frame so my price was jacked up for the first time to $8800.00. The moving company did not show or call for the first pick up date and they rescheduled for a second pick up date and called me to tell me I need to pay another $750.00 which now increased my price to $9400.00 for the third time due to the time of year the move was, like they did not know this when I signed the contract on 7/11 and they told me it was their busy season. My move was sched for the third time for and when the installer arrived to pick up he called me and advised me that he wanted $16.000.00 to do the move. When I asked why and tried to get an answer, he advised me it was because of a curio cabinet and I advised the mover that was included in the contents on the original order dated 7/11. When I expressed my concern over the price doubling and the broker did not advise me of this the truck driver of the company hung up and left the home where my contents are without saying anything to my daughter that lives there. After contacting American Moving and storage for 2 days (they kept putting me off saying I would be called back with a pick up date, I finally got to spk with a manager Jordan who told me he can’t talk to me he has a meeting with his daughters university and put me on the phone with Melanie who adv me that if I can’t pay the $16,000. They can’t do the move. After all of this frustration and trust I finally checked the BBB complaints there are 36 complaints in 6 months and all are the same extortion game. The brokers American Moving and Storage refuses to give me back my $4200.00 deposit even though they are the ones that refused to do the job for the quoted price they gave me of, which was in the long run $9400.00 I had to be a fool to agree with them each time they asked for more money but I did trust them and after reading the BBB complaints and going on their facebook site , I am not the only one that they extorted money from. These people are criminals as extrortion is a crime and now its probably
going to cost me at least $5,000.00 to get a lawyer to try to get my $4200.00 deposit back. Can you aid me in how to go about having this business closed so they can’t keep doing this people and get charged for extortion so they cannot continue to extort people like this. I have not heard from them since then and their contract states not to give the movers any money without notifying them and when I notified them of this they did not know what I was talking about because the movers never told the broker about the price increase however a couple days later they told me I would have to pay $16,000.00 and never sent me a revised est or contract to sign. They also stated that I cancelled the pick when I was not the one who asked or told the movers to leave, they left on their own accord without advising my daughter who is at the home that they were leaving. I am a 65 year old widower who is moving to be near my sister as I grow old living on social security and can’t afford to throw away or lose $4400.00 or the money it its going to cost to try to get this money back. I am desperate and would like to see this company pay for extorting people like me. Please help me in this matter as I am so frustrated as to what can be done at this point. Thank you so much for listening and for your prompt attention to this matter

The 1st sales guy sounded nice and honest so I took a chance. Wrong thing to do! I sent him pic's of all stuff in one spot ready to move so I had a pretty good idea of the cubic feet needed. The $1800 down payment came from my checking. Bad decision! They're holding my money hostage. I was uncomfortable with the limited summary of contents he listed within the bill. I sent the sales rep a detailed contents list along with the ACTUAL weight a along with an added table and bench a week later (I bought an industrial scale). He said the estimate would change but would not know until 24 hours before the scheduled pick up date. (I gave him the list 2 weeks before the move). The move went up approximately $2300 so I wanted to cancel. He said they would keep my $1800 down unless I provided another $1200 down that must be wired, I was on the hook and desperate to be moved as scheduled on 10/27. I went against my instincts and sent it. 10/27, 10/28, 10/29. No movers. No calls. I called them many times. Contract in email disappears online saying "congratulation on your move" My next agent told me the truck had broken down and I wanted a copy of the email regarding the bad truck. She would not comply. Wanted me to sign a new contract with new moving date. Didn't want to do it but did anyway because I was on the hook. New moving date of Monday Nov 1st 2021. No calls, No movers. What a scam! Nothing but corrupt liars. Now I'm stuck filing complaints with the FMCSA, writing a review and filing a claim in small claims court. Is there an attorney filing a class action against this company? I want in!

I want in! I just started talking to a guy on rocket lawyer! I'll go in for EXACTLY the same experience! I want to hit these guys where it hurts!

I tried posting a reply to alacrious1 but it wouldn't go through so I'm posting it here.

I don't understand how our experiences could be so different and the way you described the payment process is not the experience I had. I paid them using a check. There were no additional charges in fact when my Quality Assurance call came and we removed some of the items I was initially planning on bringing they lowered my balance to reflect the changes on my last 2 payments. As I was reading your review and all of the hate that it was filled with I couldn't help but feel like you were adding quite a bit of embellishment which is most likely due to something personal you have against them. It amazes me how someone can be so disproportionately vindictive over what was probably something extremely minor. I've used all the big name movers and by far American Long Distance Moving and Storage was the company that provided the fewest issues and the easiest transition.

This guy is definitely a fake.

I was not told they are a broker Never told me no refund . Had you pay then you get contract Out 1900.00 waiting on Attorney General in Florida. Instead of putting what I told them on moving sheet they put 30 12x12x12 boxes and 30 sm totes It was 60 lg totes I would join class action

They did the same to me and their mover tried to say it wasn't right- well the mover failed to show 4x and thinks it was 3.5x more than quoted- he's not reliable!

RUN FAR AWAY FROM THIS SCAM OPERATION.

All of their reviews are vague because they are fake. This company is actually NOT a mover or a shipper. They are "brokers" or scam salespeople working out of a well oiled call center in a small Florida office. They sub moving work out to whoever they can find. Most of the time they actually STEAL your money by being a no-show (like with me) or increase the price dramatically after signing. Listen carefully, I hired attorneys and HERE IS THE SECRET TO WHY THEY ARE NOT IN JAIL. They refuse to accept credit cards which have legal recourse and consumer protections, instead they DEMAND A WIRE TRANSFER.

When you do that, the FDIC and other banking laws take affect that give you ZERO RECOURSE for a refund. My bank admitted they were running a fraudulent operation and said there is NOTHING they or anyone can do after you wire them money. DID YOU FOLLOW THAT? They found a legal loophole that allows them to STEAL your money and face NO consequences! If they did it with cash, checks, or credit cards, they would all be in jail, but the direct bank wire process has a wormhole and these crooks figured out how to exploit it. I am in the process of establishing a Class Action Lawsuit with a Florida law firm that specializes in that area. Also, you cannot comment on this site unless you give at least one star, which is stupid. They deserve NONE and if you read this and are dumb enough to use them, then you deserve to lose all your money.

BTW, those review and ranking sites you read that listed them by name as credible and trustworthy, are actually CREATED AND WRTTEN BY THEM. They owe me $1,620.00 and of it's not paid back by 10/15/21, my lawsuit begins it's filing stage. The firm took it pro-bona after seeing the truth and finding the owners identity and their substantial assets. Many hidden and disguised but were uncovered through RICO and FOIA.

PS. It took my attorneys 2 weeks, because of various fronts, but I learned who the owners are behind this "business "and where they live. They will release the info publicly once filing the case and when they try to find other victims to be plaintiffs in the class action case. Stay tuned.

CAN YOU START A REDIT PLEASE! WE'RE ALL HERE FOR THIS!

I am a real customer. My wife and I signed up with this company to do our move from NH to TX recently. There was a lot of pressure up front to sign the contract and to put a deposit down. The person that signed us up was Jordan M. The total contract amount we signed for was $11,450. The first deposit that we had to do right away to secure the contract was $2773.78. Then we were contacted by the quality check team to go over all of our belongings that were going to be moved. Michael from the quality team was very good to talk with. My wife was very meticulous with our belongings and made sure that everything was on the packing list. We then had to make another deposit of $1205 to schedule a moving truck to come to our house. Our moving truck was scheduled for 6/25/21 between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.. The driver was supposed to call us on 6/24/21 but they never called. So we called the driver on 6/25/21 in the morning time to confirm their arrival. The driver told us that they were on the way to our house from New Jersey and that they would arrive by 130 p.m. which was already 1.5 hours behind schedule. At 130 p.m. they were not at our house, we called the driver again and they said that they were 30 minutes away. Nobody showed up 30 minutes later. At 230 p.m. we called the driver again and our call was not answered. We called every 15 minutes and nobody answered. Finally they arrived at 530 p.m. 9 hours late. They started to move our belongings into our driveway. Then after looking at our belongings they showed us a contract where it stated that it would cost $30,000 dollars to move our belongings. At this point it was after customer service hours and we had to be out of our house that night which the movers knew. They tried to do a bait and switch on us. This is fraud. The movers tried to tell us that our belongings were much more than originally quoted. Not true, we had everything on our packing slip. The movers also tried to tell us that our space would take up 3000 cubic feet, which also wasn't true. We had 2000 cubic feet.. At this point we did not want to pay $30,000, which the movers tried to make us pay with a credit card right away, even though we were told we would pay by check. The original contract was for $11,450, we had given a $4000 deposit already, then the movers wanted another $30,000 making the total $34,000. Absolute bait and switch, fraudulent scheme this company did on us. We did not want to pay that much money, so the movers threw our stuff back in my garage and took off. We then had to find a storage facility nearby, move all of our belongings on our own because we had to be out of the house that day. We ended up finding a better moving company that was much nicer, did not need a deposit up front, and much cheaper. Do not do business with this company. They refuse to give back our deposit of $4,000 because I refused service with their movers. What I really refused was getting ripped off from a bait and switch fraudulent scheme. This company did not provide services rendered, they are set up to steal from you.

Moving states and looking at multiple moving companies. Send a "quote request" to multiple companies, and called to follow up based on emails I received back. They insisted that they're cheaper than others (they were) and they take a 50% deposit in the form of an electronic funds transfer to confirm the moving date because they're so busy. Turns out, they're a "new company" so they don't have yelp or any other real reviews online - a bunch of 5 star reviews that all got posted in the last 6 weeks (all fake). Once I realized the address and phone number matched a couple 1 star scam/fraud companies, I knew I had to get out of my reservation. I called to cancel and they started threatening me, telling me I'm making a huge mistake and "how could you be okay losing your deposit" and "do you know how much you'll have to pay in legal fees trying to get out of this contract you signed", "don't you dare try and redact this charge from your bank" etc etc. They stole the name of the company from a reputable company in New Hampshire (American Long Distance Movers) that have great reviews. Shiesty. Lots of red flags - AVOID THEM.
