Said several amazon account had been setup under my name and big purchases had been made shipped to several states (NY, NJ, Texas). Paid for out of different accounts. Transferred me to FTC ? person who asked me about names on bank accounts. I hung up when the asked about names on other financial accounts.

I could find no phone contact for amazon to question the number.

I googled "Amazon customer service number" and this phone number showed and i called it. I responded to some of their identifying questions before I became suspicious and asked them for their name, which they did not give. I told them to call me back so i could see incoming number and they got mad and hung up on me.

Caller said someone in Sante Fe, NM opened an Amazon account using my name and info and tried to purchase an Apple Mac. Asked if I recently had identity stolen. Said the new Amazon account was going to pull the money directly from my bank account when they shipped the product. Then asked if I had any of the bank accounts that she began listing. She was going to transfer me to someone who could help me further. I said I would investigate it on my own and hung up.

I did not have any problems on my bank or Amazon accounts. So definitely a scammer.

I received a call from a representative who claimed to be working for Amazon. They informed me that there was an unusual purchase made from Ohio for an iPhone, and that my account could be compromised. After asking if I made that purchase (I said no), I was informed that they would help access my locked account by giving me a code to input into my computer. However, when I checked my account (which I wasn't locked out of) no purchase had been made, and it had not been accessed in two weeks. When I informed the 'representative' that my account was not locked and no purchase had been recorded, they insisted that it was locked out and that to solve the problem I needed to input a special code. At that point it became clear that this was a scam to install malware or to hack my account. You are most likely to get a call regarding fraud from your credit card/bank before Amazon, so do not fall for this scam!
