I was searching for apartments on Craigslist. I was interested in a listing, so I went ahead and emailed the address that was provided on their post ([email protected]) expressing my interest and asked for a tour. The person quickly responded from the same email and said that it is available to tour but I will need to send them a copy of my credit report first. They sent me a link that brought me to a site called IdentityIQ, which pulls data from either transunion, experian, and equifax to create a credit report. Although this is a real and secure site, it is possible that the link they sent me was hacked and it is possible that they could have seen my personal information while I filled it out on IdentityIQ. I ended up emailing them a pdf of this report, which gave them information about my name, address, and 6 digits of my credit card number. I ended up canceling this card and ordered a new one. I also froze all three of my credit files, changed my passwords, and reported the incident to the FTC.
