I was looking for a job and uploaded my resume on a couple job search websites like Indeed, CareerBuilder, and Zip Recruiter to name a few. A day or so I received an email from a man who called himself Mark Morphett stating that they were interested in me for one of 5 available positions. I followed very detailed instructions. They used the excuse that due to covid-19 and that the corporate office is based in Italy they were going to do an online questionnaire. Within 3 hours I was hired and I was told that I needed to check in with them the following day at 8 am so they can send me my paperwork. Up to this moment everything seemed legitimate until the next morning when I was told that I would be making a ridiculous hourly rate and that I would be working remotely from home until August 3rd when they returned to their branch in LA. Literally the following day FedEx dropped off a $4,700 check and was informed that I would need to purchase a laptop and 5 different online accounting programs. This set off a couple red flags and I decided to look into the Algowatt company based in Italy and found that the scammer website says there is a branch in the US and the original website shows that they do not. I found that the address they are using is from a home that is owned by a 76-year-old. I also found the actual HR hiring director's contact information in Italy and I sent him an email. He explained to me that they do not have any branches in the US and that those are not real employees from their company. He said that the check is probably fake and it is definitely a scam to not fall for it. If you get an email from Mark Morphett using the email: [email protected] showing interest or job offer letters from James Bricks email: [email protected], or if you get an online questionnaire from a supposed Hiring Manager name Ghazaal Pokar Rezaiyeh using Telegram as her form of communication, DON'T FALL FOR IT!!!!
